A site that does not honor its contract with the buyer( customer)
Two incidents have rocked my faith in Flipkart now taken over by Walmart. The site after accepting money canceled two orders and no reason was assigned. The item continues to be advertised on Flipkart and one can only surmise that Flipkart picks and chooses its customers.
a) Washing machine booked and canceled arbitrarily
b) A phone was defective and not changed on frivolous conditions that were not fair.
I have just stopped buying from this site and I will say the Amazon.com and .in are much more customer oriented
The Indian general election spread over a month is finally over. The result is something that the pollsters had forecast earlier, and Modi and the BJP have romped home with a massive mandate. The election was significant as it marked the consolidation of the Hindutva ethos over India as the BJP. One of the path-breaking election contest was at Bhopal.
This time the Congress Digvijay Singh from this seat. Digvijay Singh is anathema to the BJP which has been riled by his comments against "Hindu terror." The BJP this time decided to take on the "Hindu terror" narrative head-on and fielded Sadhvi Pragya Thakur as its candidate from Bhopal to confront Digvijay Singh. She had been accused of terror activities and is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast.
Contest
The contest turned out to be a one-sided affair, and Digvijay Singh wrote his own political obituary as he lost the election to the 49-year-old Sadhvi by over 350,000 votes. There has been some outcry from a few people about a controversial reference by Sadhvi about Nathuram Godse. She had referred to the assassinator of Mohan Das Gandhi as a "patriot". People assumed that this remark would cost Sadhvi Pragya her seat.
Victory
The victory proves that many in India feel Gandhi and the Congress party is responsible for many of the ills that afflict India today. The BJP is talking of a renaissance, and this has appealed to the core Hindu voteBhopal has a high rate of literacy and also a sizeable Muslim population. But with the polarisation of votes on religious lines, Digvijay Singh's past statements caught up with him and he was defeated. In contrast, there was exuberance in the BJP camp with Sadhvi Pragya striking a chord with the Hindu voters. She has thus been voted to victory.

Catholic Priest is sentenced to double life in prison for forced carnal body knowledge of a young minor girl
Criminals are to be found in all walks of life. A case has now emerged from among the Christian Catholic community where a Catholic priest repeatedly raped a young girl. The rapes took place in the Indian state of Kerala. The girl complained to her mother, who immediately went to the police.
An investigation was done and the priest was arrested for rape. He was charged under the Protection of Children from sexual offenses act ( POCSO). It appears that after a sermon the priest would lure the girl to his chamber for the gratification of his lust.

The priest was tried under POCSO and the judge has awarded him 2 life imprisonment terms. The priest was also directed to pay a fine of Rs250,000. Along with Fr Edwin, his brother was also arrested and tried as an accessory.
Action
The priest has now been suspended by the local diocese. Catholic priests are at the center of many crimes and the Vatican is grappling with the issue. Fr Edwin was tried by a fast track court and punished in record time.
The Enfield is a versatile bike and riding it in the Himalayas is great fun. I have ridden the Himalayas on my bike for years and would love to continue until I age away
The Royal Enfield “Bullet” is my favorite motorbike. I prefer the 500cc, 4 stroke model and I find it is the slickest bike available in India. The bike is now manufactured at Chennai as the English company has folded up and sold its logo and assets to an Indian company. The Royal Enfield is now an Indian bike and exported under the old brand name.
I am also reminded of that lovely song by Mary Hopkins “Those were the days…..”. One can add the two and have a lovely reminiscence of times gone by, though it feels like it was just yesterday.
My bike is fairly old now, but it’s never given any trouble. It is part and parcel of my life and I love to go on it, riding the hill roads and lanes. The bike handles the mountain roads with aplomb and even hitting a pothole at 60 MPH has no effect on me or the bike.
The bike has been used by me in the Himalayas and I have traversed the mountain roads in the Eastern Himalayas to Darjeeling and Gangtok. You will have to look up the map and see where it is. Remember the Himalayas are the highest mountains in the world and the Alps are like pygmy before them. Many a time I have driven the bike wearing my uniform and cross belt with my revolver. It gives a kick to drive so attired and people watching me on the roadside are impressed. More so my girls who would clasp me from the back and sometimes even hold the butt of my .38.
A greater pleasure is taking my girl friend for a spin in the mountains. It’s thrilling negotiating the steep mountain curves and your girl clinging to you. I Always carried a swig of Sikkim Rum, in a small jerry can. Incidentally Sikkim Rum is the only rum sold in plastic jerry cans.
The greater fun was to park the Enfield in the high jungles with a lovely green carpet and foliage all around and then carry my girl under a tree and then steal furtive kisses in the thick jungles. Greater fun if it starts to rain and so lovely to cover your girls body with your own and allow the rain to beat on your back. As I say those were the days……
I think there is a blurring of facts of history. Firstly Tibet was mostly under Chinese suzerainty though for short periods it had independence but it was always at the mercy of China. After the British with Sikh troops launched the Younghusband expedition and reached Lhasa in 1903/04 Tibet became a buffer between China and India. But historically for almost 2000 years Sikkim or the North East and Aksai Chin were never ruled from Delhi or were part of the Indian empire. The British redrew the border after the 1913 Simla conference and made Aksai Chin and NEFA part of India. But even the British never set up an administration in Aksai Chin and NEFA. Till 1938 it is recorded the British recognized Tawang as part of Tibet.
Sikkim was never part of India and only became protectorate after the British took over. No Mogul king or emperor conquered Sikkim and NEFA and this paid tribute to Tibet. Once foolishly Nehru recognized Tibet as a part of China the natural corollary is that old areas like Aksai Chin, NEFA and even Sikkim are in the Chinese sphere of influence. This is because at some time they were part of the Tibetan empire and China claims continuity and India foolishly recognized Tibet as part of China, undoing all the efforts of the British.
Nehru made the situation worse by not setting up any administration in the areas like Aksai Chin. As far as Sikkim is concerned China has recognized it as part of India but they claim the entire Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin including Ladkah as part of China as these were part of greater Tibet empire. The Chinese feel the present borders were drawn by the British during the age of imperialism and China was weak. They have a point and India has compounded its problems by not developing the areas or setting up any infrastructure. China has a rail like to Lhasa at 13000 ft and India is nowhere comparable. The fault is with the founding fathers of the Indian state who got power in their laps and failed to realize its significance. Sikkim is not the problem but other areas are.
The Cemetery at Park Street in Calcutta where Memories of the Raj Thrive
Updated on April 9, 2019
An Unforgettable Relic
The British came to India under the guise of the East India Company and soon by a series of Machiavellian steps took control of an entire sub-continent. After Robert Clive won the Battle of Plassey in 1757, it was the Raj (a euphuism for British rule) all the way. At that time the British made Calcutta their capital and it continued till 1911 when they shifted the capital to Delhi.
Many Englishmen served and died in Calcutta and their mortal remains were interred in the cemeteries of the city. One of the most famous is the cemetery at Park Street in the heart of Calcutta. This cemetery is looked after by the Archeological Survey of India ( ASI), another British creation.
The cemetery
The cemetery is hidden from the main Park Street which is the entertainment district of Calcutta with a string of bars and restaurants. The cemetery stands behind an imposing wrought iron gate. There are not many visitors. The cemetery is in disuse since 1790. This is a good 225 years back, yet its well maintained and for history lovers a treasure house of great information. Known as the Park Street Cemetery it's a site worth visiting for a tourist. In just 30 minutes you will glean more about the history of Calcutta and the Raj than any book.
Every sinew of the cemetery breathes history and men of the Raj who distinguished themselves find a place here. There is, however, a subtle difference from a normal cemetery and one fact that stands out is that it is a non- Christian cemetery. This makes the entire monument a different place to visit. In other words, it is an exciting place.
