Justice Katju's comment on OROP *

This was Chanakya' advice to Emperor Chandragupta. The Govt. of India should think about this carefully in relation to the demand of OROP

“Pataliputra reposes each night in peaceful comfort, O King, secure in the belief that the distant borders of Magadha are inviolate and the interiors are safe and secure, thanks only to the Mauryan Army standing vigil with naked swords and eyes peeled for action, day and night, in weather fair and foul, all eight praharas (i.e.round the clock), quite unmindful of personal discomfort and hardship, all through the year, year after year.

“While the citizenry of the State contributes to see that the State prospers and flourishes, the soldier guarantees it continues to EXIST as a State! To this man, O Rajadhiraja, you owe a debt: please, therefore, see to it, on your own, that the soldier continuously gets his dues in every form and respect, be they his needs or his wants, for he is not likely to ask for them himself.”

Then Kautilya, known also as Chanakya gave his king this blunt warning: “The day the soldier has to demand his dues will be a sad day for Magadha for then, on that day, you will have lost all moral sanction to be King!”
I wonder whether Mr. Narendra Modi reads this and changes his tune.

Reservations of all Forms Except Economic Must Go

There is a story of the Captain on the burning deck and finally the ship sank with the captain. The Indian state is burning and now may well sink in the the depth of the Ocean with a new agitation by the Patel community unleashed in Gujarat. The agitation is a severe reminder that the politics of reservation brought in by VP Singh has boomeranged and now the genie is out and it wont go back. One wonders how short sighted VP Singh was? For a small personal gain he  sold teh soul of teh Indian nation to heathens, when he brought in 27% reservation in Government jobs  as well as the Public sector. In one stroke this man divided India like never before.

Now the birds have come home to roost and almost every community is asking for reservation. The Patels an influential community in Gujarat have asked for reservation as well and though being economically better off they feel that they deserve reservation. They have a point however as teh politics of reservation has worked against them and in all walks the lesser qualified and poorer intellect men are moving ahead. Mind you many patels are also poor, thus this agitation was expected.

This is the beginning and more communities will ask for reservation. Where will India go from here? There has to be a solution and that is the roll back of all forms of reservation. VP Singh needs to be consigned to the dust bin of history. But it will be a Herculean task to bring this about and Modi and the BJP are not the party who can bring this change. The Indian state is thus doomed and maybe the Chinese are right after all that in a few decades India will be a fragmented nation. All  I can say is Beware  and Beware!

One Rank One Pension: can't have a more heartless government than Modi and BJP

Today we had the sad news that one of the OROP veterans on a hunger strike had to be taken to hospital. I sincerely hope he is OK, as he has served his purpose of highlighting the callousness of Modi and his government. What a sham and lier this man is. Surely he deserves the boot for making wild promises and not fulfilling a single one of them.

I wonder how a man who becomes a prime minister has no notion of power politics and the role of the armed forces as a stake holder not only in the unity of India, but in the power projection and status in the world. Is this man not aware of the umbilical cord between the veterans and the serving personnel? This man is Narendra Modi and till he makes amends , india as a nation is finished.

It's About Time India Drew the Line on the Hurriyat

The Hurriyat is a conglomeration of some disparate groups opposed to India , who want to join Pakistan. These leaders have very little support in the entire kashmir , though a small percentage may support them in the valley.
The Hurriyat came into prominence n the early nineties and were sponsored by the western powers, but they soon dropped them and Pakistan became their mentor. A weak central government in a confused display of policy allowed the Hurriyat leadership to thrive. They gave them security cover and also paid them, yet these men remained anti india. Pakistan fished in this scenario and the Indian government played ball. The situation reached an absolute Nadir, when the Pak government at every stage made the Hurriyat a part of all discussions. One wonders how the Indian government allowed this, but it did happen and continued for 2 decades.

The Modi government has now at last called the bluff and the Hurriyat leaders have now been put under detention just before the Indo pak security advisors talks.

This was a long overdue step and earlier the Congress and teh BJP  included gave these men a lot of leeway. This should have been stopped earlier and now the bluff is called. one will have to wait and see whether the talks take place as Pakistan cannot digest the the indian government has asserted its right. In fact these men should have been put behind bars years back.

Mr Rajiv Chandrasekhar, Member of Parliament does something Great; Sets up Education Trust for Children of L?NK Choudhary

Once again Mr Chandrashekhar  has  shown  generosity, good judgement and his love for the Armed Forces today by taking over the responsibilities of full education of two children of Late L/NK Chaudhary, who was murdered by five goons in Meerut in the last week after he rescued a girl from sexaul assaults from the same gang.

The decision to set up a trust for their education  and as long as they want pursue their education truly reflects in line with many other great works  that Mr Chandrashekar has  done for the society and the country. He deserves our  admiration and gratitude that there are men in India who are not self  centered, but see the nation with a eye of a nationalist. I have no words to describe  the good deed done by the MP, which will bring its own rewards at the altar of the allmighty

No Cheer for Ex - servicemen in Modi's Red Fort Speech

Today is 15 August, the day when India became free from the British Raj. This was 69 years ago and as per tradition, the Indian Prime Minister addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. The speech at 8 am in the morning was broadcast and televised all over the world.

Ex -Service men had great hopes that Modi will make some dramatic announcement in their favour.

The ex servicemen asking for one rank one pension( OROP) had pinned their hopes on a favourable announcement. Unfortunately Modi, the Indian PM, let them down. Apart from mouthing some bland statements, Modi failed to give any concrete  joy to lakhs of ex soldiers. This is dangerous as a country which has failed its soldiers, is doomed for ever. One hopes Modi realises it.

The BJP and Modi are playing a dangerous game. It could lead to a breakdown in morale of the army as well as create an officer- soldier divide. Worse India's enemies China and Pakistan will be laughing up their sleeve at the lowering of morale of the Indian fighting forces. How silly can the BJP get?

Narendra Modi is Visiting the UAE *

The UAE is " home" to hundreds of thousands of Indians. It is one place where Indians can earn and work with dignity.Add to this the tolerance and sagicity of the rulers, the UAE led by Dubai is a wonderful place.  Almost like an "El Dorado", the proverbial city of gold of the East.
The Indian prime minister Narendra Modi will visit the UAE now. Its a visit that was long overdue and is a welcome statement of Indian support and policy in favour of UAE.
Modi will visit the UAE and recognise that UAE is the livelihood of lakhs of Indian workers. The UAE needs to continue its pragmatic policies. I wonder if visa and its issue will be discussed. There is a need for UAE to extend tourist and visit visa of 30 days to 60.
All the same its a welcome visit.

Hindu Pandits are Fordsaken by All including Modi and BJP

Kashmir was a state of British India. In 1947 it acceded to India as the dream of an independent nation collapsed with the invasion of the valley by Pakistan bavked militants. Subsequently after the failure of Pakistan to annexe the valley even after two wars, the leadership in Pakistan decided to launch a militant struggle against the Indian army. One of the facets of this so called armed struggle was to give it an Islamic cloak. Thus an concerted attempr was made to create a wedge between the local majority Muslim populace and the minority Hindu community.
The Hindus and Muslims had lived in communial harmony for centuries, but this hard line movement exported  by Pakistan had its effect and the militants began targetting the Hindu Pandit community. Fear was created in the community as the Muslim gunmen attacked and killed Hindus all over the valley. There were also umpteen cases of Pandit girls being kidnapped by these militants and repeatedly raped and murdered. The sad part of this was that even some of the local populace sided with the Muslim extremists, with a  view to take over the property of the Hindu Pandits or their own benefits.
All this makes sad reading as the Pamdits were terrorized and forced out of the valley, which had been their home for many centuries. The plight of the Pandiys has not got the attention it desrves and most Pandits have lost prperty worth crores as they fled the valley for their lives. It makes sadder reading still that tPanditdhe central government  sat by and watched as theis carnage continued in the valley.
What of the future? There seems no light at the end of the tunnel. The valley is now out of bounds to the Hindu Pandits who dare not go back. One had thought that with arrival of BJ P and Modi , things will change. But in effect it has got worse as the Modi government has jettisoned all its poll promises. Who will stand by the poor Pandits?

The Battle lines are being drawn in Kashmir: Is it Hammurabi Code ?

Hummarabi  was an ancient king of what is known as modern Iraq. He is famous for a code called popularly as the code of Hummarabi. The essence of this code was "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". I am afraid this code looks to be working in Pakistan's bid to wrest Kashmir.

Pakistan feels greatly wronged at the break away of East Pakistan from Pakistan and the formation of the state of Bangladesh. There is no doubt that Bangladesh would never have been ceated in case the Indian army had not fought  along with the Mukti Bhani. There is also no doubt that Indian army special forces were operating inside East Pakistan long before actual hostilities had commenced.

This is galling to Pkistan and they are out for revenge. Thus the infilteration of so called Mujahadin and terror groups into the valley.' Pakistan is seeking revenge and trying to play the India card like India  did in East Pakistan. But ground realities are dfferent as the Indian army is showing restraint in Kashmir unlike the Pak army which had gone on a rampage in East Paksitan. The watchword there was rape and killings.
Thus Pakistgan may seek revenge but the chances of sucess in Kashmir ARE ALMOST ZERO.

Nabbing of Terrorist in Kashmir raises Disturbing Thoughts

Another Kasab is caught. A Pakistani terrorist has been nabbed in Udhampur in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Before he was caught this dedicated mujahaddin had gunned down 2BSF Jawans and injured at least 13. Thus one man inflicted 15 casualties. Quite a feat. His accomplice was killed, but luckily this man was caught. He would have perhaps escaped but for the vigilance o some villagers who captured this man and held him to the ground till the soldiers arrived.

This capture of a terrorist is not sweet news. Now we know that this terrorist who hailed from Punjab was in Kashmir for 12 days. The worrying part is that local Kashmiri people , probably Muslim nurtured this man. He was given food and shelter as well as armed. The man entered from Pakistan without a weapon and an AK 47 was supplied to him by dormant moles in Kashmir. THIS is the worrying part and the Indian forces may well look for hidden moles inimical to the Indian state at home in Kashmir.

Facts are out. Yes we already know what this man is revealing. Pakistan is fomenting terror and is hell bent to make India bleed with a thousand cuts. Having known this, what is the reaction of the Indian state? What is the reaction of Narendra Modi? This  man has taken a hard line against his own ex soldiers on the topic of OROP, but he dithers when confronted with terror from Pakistan. What can one make of it? This is THE sad story of Indian incompetence and wrong priorities
