No Cheer for Ex - servicemen in Modi's Red Fort Speech

Today is 15 August, the day when India became free from the British Raj. This was 69 years ago and as per tradition, the Indian Prime Minister addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. The speech at 8 am in the morning was broadcast and televised all over the world.

Ex -Service men had great hopes that Modi will make some dramatic announcement in their favour.

The ex servicemen asking for one rank one pension( OROP) had pinned their hopes on a favourable announcement. Unfortunately Modi, the Indian PM, let them down. Apart from mouthing some bland statements, Modi failed to give any concrete  joy to lakhs of ex soldiers. This is dangerous as a country which has failed its soldiers, is doomed for ever. One hopes Modi realises it.

The BJP and Modi are playing a dangerous game. It could lead to a breakdown in morale of the army as well as create an officer- soldier divide. Worse India's enemies China and Pakistan will be laughing up their sleeve at the lowering of morale of the Indian fighting forces. How silly can the BJP get?
