Terror Attack on Sikhs in USA: Some Stray Thoughts
One has sympathy with the Siks killed, but there should be no special alarm as it is well known that with the lax gun laws, where anybody can own a gun, such crimes are more the rule than the exception.
One other thing I observed was the local American Sikhs referring to the Sikh temple as a Church. Somehow this gels badly as the US policemen were referring to the shrine as a Sikh Temple and yet I wonder why the Sikhs were referring to a temple as a church.
It is well known that the USA is a violent society and during my visits there normally keep to myself . Prudence is better than valor. The Sikhs are unfortunately caught in a cross fire. There is anarchy and guns all around and not forgetting that this could also be a hate crime. The Sikhs have chosen the USA as a homeland and I find they can't crib now. Another jarring fact coming out was a statement of one of the US Sikh leaders who emphasised that Sikhs are not Hindus. This is silly, this man needs to be tought Sikh history where Sikhism is one of the distinct off shoots of Hinduism. The Great Guru Gobind was a worshipper of the Goddess Kali. Read his Chandi di Var in the Dasam Granth.
All said and done its a sad end for some Sikhs who went to America in search of the elusive El Dorado.
