Act of Showing his Wife to Allauddin. What was it? Bravery or Cowardice

Legend tells us that the Raja of Chittor showed his wife's reflection in a mirror to Allauddin. Was it appeasement or a sign of weakness. It was certainly not bravery and many feel it was an act of cowardice.

The film" Padmavati" is due for release.It has generated a lot of controversies and peoples passions are inflamed in Rajasthan and Gujerat. I will focus on one aspect of this tale and wonder how Sanjay Leela Bhansali is going to show it on the screen. Allauddin was the Sultan of Delhi, about a thousand miles from Chittor. He was a great soldier and had subdued most of North India. He was rumored to be gay and loved a slave, who later became emperor and launched the Slave Dynasty. The Delhi Sultan also was fond of women and had a harem with many lovely women, both Hindus and Muslims. 
 
The long and short is, that he coveted the Rani Padmavati for his harem and for this reason marched against Chittor.

The tale relates that when Allauddin reached the gates of Chittor fort, he offered to go away in case the Raja showed his wife to him. He grandly passed the message, that he just wanted to see the queen and then would march back with his army. Was the Raja petrified of Allauddin? Yes, he had a fearful reputation but no historian has said why the Raja agreed to show his wife Rani Padmavati to Allauddin? There is no explanation for it and now we can only make conjectures. Needless to say, that was the period of Purdah and seclusion for women, yet the Raja did the unthinkable and showed his wife's reflection in a mirror to Allauddin.

This act on the face of it is cowardice and in case it took place, one has to sadly conclude that the Raja was dictated by something.Was it fear or dread?. It was not an act of bravery and there is no record of any such incident elsewhere in World history. This will remain a million dollar question. I have raised this point, as many just treat this incident as routine. In the 13th century, it was not routine and one wonders what were the motives of the Raja. He certainly didn't cover himself with glory

This contest generated tremendous interest in Pakistan as well as India.Ramina won the Miss Earth Pakistan title and posed in a bikini.

Ramina the Sindhi girl has done wonders. This the least we can say about the girl because she broke out of the cloistered world of the Pakistan women.This would not have been possible in case Ms. Sonia Ahmed had not got the idea to give an exposure to Pakistan women to the world of beauty. The contests are now held every year. Ramina has won the Miss Earth Pakistan title and represented Pakistan at the world title in October 2017.

Pakstan has to get out of its death wish. The only news coming out of Pakistan is of terror attacks and last week over 150 have been killed. It's a wonder the Pak government has not seen the light. All credit to the organizers of the Miss Pakistan contest. One hopes despite the noise by the Shiv Sena, Ramina could get a break in Bollywood. After all, Mahira Khan starred in "Raees".

Last Word

Much water has flown down the river since Ramina won the title. India- Pak relations have nose-dived and political parties like the Shiv Sen are enforcing a ban on Muslim actresses from Pakistan acting in Bollywood. So there is little chance of getting a break in Mumbai.In addition, Pakistan is increasingly being dominated by Islamists and Ramina cant do much in Pak as well.

Royal Navy Dismisses 9 Sailors And 2 Officers For Drugs And Sex On Board

The Stars and Stripes News Paper has reported that when the nuclear-powered submarine HMS Vigilant docked in the US to replenish its stock of Trident nuclear missiles, the crew held rave parties at which drugs flowed freely. A mandatory drug test revealed that nine sailors were positive and these nine have been dismissed. Considering that the submarine has a complement of 11 officers and 121 sailors, dismissing 9 sailors is perhaps the tip of the iceberg. It is inconceivable that only 9 sailors took part in the "rave parties".

This was not all and two officers a Commander and Lieutenant Commander have been removed from command for bedding two junior female officers while the warship was on the high seas. These sexual liaisons seriously undermined the discipline and efficacy of the crew and the submarine.In turn, the defense of the UK was in jeopardy. Both the officers have been removed from command though no action is taken against the female crew who slept with the officers. perhaps this is understandable as it is the man who is invariably the dominant partner.

The Defence Minister Micheal Fallon is seriously perturbed at this moral turpitude which has seriously undermined the security of the UK and he has ordered a detailed investigation into the state of affairs aboard all warships of the Royal Navy.

Racial Divide America from the time 13 Black Soldiers hanged

In 1917, the US entered the First World War on the side of the Allies against the Central Powers led by Kaiser Wilhelm’s Germany. In the same year, a platoon of black soldiers was sent to guard a depot in the deep south. To the White Supremacists, seeing black soldiers strutting about carrying rifles and guns was like a red rag to a bull. They were incensed and the police began to take it out on the local blacks. One of the soldiers who was witness to the beating of a black woman intervened and was beaten-up and arrested. This enraged the black soldiers, who came in a group with the specific intent of killing the policemen responsible. It led to a fire-fight and 15 whites and four blacks were killed.

The incident was treated as a mutiny and 63 blacks were court-martialed. After a trial lasting 22 days, where the laws of evidence were studiously ignored and 63 defendants were represented by just one lawyer, 13 were sentenced to be hanged. 

Charlottesville is a symptom and part of a disease in the USA. There are reports, that even now many whites move away if blacks or coloreds come and settle in their neighborhood and many will not send their children to schools where black children also study. The events in Charlottesville, have brought to the fore the simmering problems among the white supremacists and the blacks

General Sisi of Egypt is sitting on a Volcano

General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is the ruler of Egypt. He ousted the elected president of the Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood and brought in military rule again. Unfortunately, it not smooth going for him and though he has Morsi behind bars, the Egyptian state is threatened by a spate of terror attacks by the ISIS and some new splinter groups.  The latest attack is chilling as two German female tourists were stabbed to death. In addition, four other tourists have been wounded.  The attack took place on Friday at the Red Sea resort of Hurghada. All Jazeera News Channel has reported this news.

The rule of General Sisi is under threat. He was one of the first world leaders who was invited by Donald Trump to Washington. Sisi hit along well with the president and despite opposition Trump endorsed his rule. The General is on a sticky wicket as just a week earlier 23 Egyptian soldiers were killed by ISIS in the deserts of Sinai.

No group has claimed the killing of the policemen but a new terror group called Hasm, could have been behind the killings. The attack took place on the weekly holiday when traffic is less but there appears to have been little or no resistance from the policemen. The terrorist looted their weapons and set the vehicle o fire. Considering the attack took place close to Cairo is cause for alarm.

The killing of the German tourists is a pointer as well. The man who reportedly swam across the sea from an island attacked the tourists with a knife. He was young, just about 20 plus but he targeted only the foreigners and nobody else.

Egypt has been rocked by deadly suicide bombings and other attacks since 2013 when Sisi ousted Morsi. Sisi is on a sticky wicket and he may well wonder what happens to him in the future as examples of Nassar, Sadat, and Mubarak are not very encouraging.

North Korea has the H-Bomb ** 75

Many people are wondering what it means for North Korea to have a Hydrogen Bomb. What is a hydrogen bomb? It is a bomb that is more lethal by at least a 100 times than a conventional Atomic bomb and includes breaking of the Hydrogen molecule and release of mass energy.

The North Koreans have claimed they have this weapon and the world is up in condemnation of this act of supposed terror. Is it so? what if Kim Jong-Un had no weapons of mass destruction, then what would have happened? How many can answer this question?

The fact is in case Kim had no deterrence, then by now he would have been sodomised with a baynot like Gaddafi and hanged like a common criminal like Saddam. The Americans are adept in attacking weak opponenst and this is borne out by history. Can any one answer where was American rhetoric when China went nuclear and exploded A and H-Bombs? They kept quiet and now see than prancing about like a tiger. Kim has held them at bay, and I am sure he will never give up his nuclear arsenal. America will have to live with it.

Ovid; Romantic poet from Rome *** 97

Ovid was a poet during the 'classical age' of Rome when Augustes ruled. He wrote a number of books with verses. His'Art of love` is a stand out verse. Ovid describes love and allows the reader to infer about rape with his verses on the `Gaze.` Ovid was of the view that a rape can only commence after a man gazes at a woman. A gaze by a man in which he takes stock of the woman for carnal knowledge is the beginning of rape. Ovid himself does not describe the rape in his verses, but as a master poet leaves it to the imagination of the reader. This is classical poetry and proves that Ovid was a master of the verse. His other works are  Heroides, Amores and Ars Amatoria, and o Metamorphoses, 

Ovid was a poet during the reign of Augustus in Rome and wrote the "the art of love".Ovid wrote other works as well, but his forte was poetry and verse. There is no doubt he had the pulse of poetry creation in his grip. Ovid was perhaps a great lover himself. Ther is no doubt that to write love poetry an element of personal experience is always a great help. Ovid died at the age of perhaps 56 or 58. A Bridge Too Far As North and South Korea Are Riven Apart

In 1953 an armistice was signed by the USA and its allies and the communist north along with China and a border was defined at the 38th parallel. This is known as the DMZ or demilitarized zone that is monitored by UN observers. On both sides, troops are amassed with the US having 28000 soldiers on the border. There is a lone bridge that joins the two Koreas and after I visited it, a thought crossed my mind that it is a bridge too far and in reality divides the two nations who have the same religion and are from the same racial stock.

Who is responsible? It's not an easy answer as the lines of division are so deep that the North, if threatened, can resort to a nuclear attack as well.The South leadership is to be faulted for dancing to the American tunes and allowing an escalation of tension by letting the US army install the THAAD missile system.

The USA is selective in choosing enemies and if they are big and strong then compromise and others? just bulldoze. If you don't have the means to defend yourself then you go to to the world of Hades like Saddam and Gaddafi. So there is a legitimate reason for the North led by Kim Jong-Un to have weapons for retaliation. My word ! if he didn't have a deterrent he would be giving company to Saddam and Gaddafi in Hades.

The future? It's a long and tough road and the key is with the US. I wonder they are planning a strike against the North and in the bargain, Korean Peninsula will be wiped out. That doesn't matter for the US president who in a private conversation is reported to have said; if there is a war it's THEY who will die and not the US. Strange logic.

I am Tickled to have a Viewership of 2.6 million on Wikinut.com

Something to Remember
 Yesterday my secretary came to me and told me that she had checked and I had crossed a viewership of 2.6 million on Wikinut.  There are no payments now, fine, but this achievement is by itself a source of great satisfaction. I have loved 3 things in my life in no particular order, women, cars, and writing. The first two dovetail into the last and has led to my novel" Romance of the Frontier". I started writing on Wikinut a few years back and slowly but surely the views from a trickle grew up. Now even when I write seldom on this site, yet I still garner over 1200 views a day.  Wikinut is a fine site and one sincerely hopes it does not pack up. I think it could, however, take a learning lesson from some new sites like Blastingnews.com

  Fond memories
 Great writers came and some went away.One man who is missing, who wrote prodigiously earlier is V Paulose. I wonder where he is? Steve Kinsmen is another whose name along with Carolina must be mentioned. There has hardly been a moderation and I am thankful that an article on the painter Coubert with his painting was published on this site. It's been great innings all through.
  Last Word 

Life moves on and Khalil Gibran wrote" the moving finger writes and life goes on, never to come back" is so very true. The years with Wikinut is something that will be a part of my life. It is a great pleasure to interact with the writers, many of who are still writing on this site. But one does wish that the writing site thinks ahead and tunes up. It cant go on and  become moribund. It has a great base and maybe a bright spark may still come.

Islam is an insular religion that has global appeal. Many Muslims have been taken in by this rhetoric and felt European women are easy game. This came to the fore in Germany, where on New Year eve many German women were assaulted. Basically it's a clash of cultures as in Islam women are subservient to men and Muslim personal Law as codified in the Sharia gives hardly any rights to women. In addition, for centuries, the Arab Sheiks have always coveted pure blonde European women, particularly from the Slav countries, for their harems.

This was the genesis of the white slave trade, carried on by the Berbers and others. The problem has no easy solution as Europe does need cheap labor and cannot turn away all the migrants. How will they strike the middle line i.e balance the migrants with the needs of labor? 

"The Last Post" ode to the dead Soldier.

ALL have heard the haunting song, 'The Last Post.'

It's the song that gives us the lump in our throats and usually tears in our eyes.

But, do you know the story behind the song?

If not, I think you will be interested to find out about its humble beginnings.

Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the American Civil War, when Union Army Captain Robert Ellicombe was with his men near Harrison's Landing in Virginia .. The Confederate Army was on the other side of the narrow strip of land.

During the night, Captain Ellicombe heard the moans of a soldier who lay severely wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment.

When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the soldier was dead..

The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier.. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out. Without telling his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army.

The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted.

The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral.

The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate.

But, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician.

The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform.

This wish was granted.

The haunting melody, we now know as 'The Last Post' used at military funerals was born.

The words are:

Day is done.

I too have felt the chills while listening to 'The Last Post'

But I have never seen all the words to the song until now.

I didn't even know there was more than one verse .. 

I also never knew the story behind the song and I didn't know if

I now have an even deeper respect for the song than I did before

Loving younger and more youthful women

I want to state an obvious fact that most men like me, covet and seek out younger attractive women for a relationship. Why? I really have no answer but maybe after all it’s a simple answer. As far as I am concerned I do seek company of younger women and I guess the answer is in one word biology. One reason is that for men the biological clock is different. I recollect reading somewhere that Anthony Quinn the Hollywood star had a child at 82. Not possible for a woman.

0Despite some people sneering at older men and younger women in a relationship, the fact is many younger women marry older men it’s again a biological need.
Frankly as I am not a woman, I can’t write from the women’s angle. But I suppose all relationships can only take place if there is mutual attraction, and sexual desire. So at the end of the day the woman must like the man and that is the bottom line.

Sana Shiekh was the star of "dangal". She has now published her photos on Instagram in a black swimwear. She looks sexy but some have castigated her for wearing swim costume during the month of Ramadan. 

Sana has done well so far. By posting her photos in a black swimming costume she has set the ball rolling. Her fairness is accentuated with the black costume and shows that she is a modern Muslim girl. Many girls including Muslims see her as a role model for oppressed Muslim women. Many of them are coerced to drape their body and wear the Burkha.

People are waiting to see how Sana performs in Amir's new film. Her role is so far not announced. One hopes she will be a success.

It rises up to 5000 feet, it's a beautiful motorable road and is an engineering delight. At night the road is floodlit. The resort is 120 kilometers from the capital Abu Dhabi

The resort overlooks the town of Al-ain which is supposed to be the green belt of Abu Dhabi. The resort itself is a delight with a heated swimming pool and three eating outlets and a bar. One can have his choicest cocktails and mocktails at the bar and on certain nights the bar also regales customers with the belly dance. The resort has all the amenities that one can think of and many Americans and Britishers spend days at this resort relaxing in the sun and swimming in the heated pool and drinking away to glory. 

Up to the top

From the resort, one can drive another 7 kilometers up the mountain to the flat plateau that overlooks the town of Al-ain below.

It can be really chilly in winter at this site. The place has two cafeterias where one can enjoy hot coffee and a burger. The best time is to drive to this spot after midnight. it can be a very romantic moment at that height with the cold wind swishing around your ears. A hot cup of coffee adds to the atmosphere

Best mountain resort

 The best part is that the entire area is peaceful and the Arabs are a friendly lot. There is no dress code and it is possible to swim in the pool in a bikini. Many women from Egypt, Lebanon, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia also visit this resort to get away from the oppressive discipline in their countries. Maybe if you are lucky you could strike a relationship with one of them

Narendra Modi and Donald's  election campaign has many similarities. Donald Trump was castigated for his views on Muslims, Hispanics and women and Modi was pilloried for his perceived support for Hindu right wing elements as well as the Gujerat riots of 2002 which led to some Muslims being killed.

The similarity ends here and in both are the anti-thesis of each other. Donald is a rich and affluent businessman while Modi is a humble man who worked as a waiter at a tea stall. Donald does not seem to have any firm political views though now he has embraced the extreme right-wing concepts. He has also not been a lifetime GOP member. In contrast, Modi has spent his entire life as a "pracharak" (worker) with the RSS and is a life long member of the  RSS.

The differences between the two with regard to the fair sex is also the palpable opposite of each other. Donald is married thrice and has 5 children. In addition, he seems to relish the company of women. In contrast, Modi was married for 3 years but he left his wife 30 years back. He never divorced her and the lady Yashoda Behn continues to reside in a small village in North Gujerat:; subsisting on a small pension which she earned as a teacher.

In contrast to his neglected wife, Modi lives an affluent style and dresses impeccably. He once wore a dress with his name embroidered in a golden thread which led president Obama to remark that he was a Bollywood star. The dress was later auctioned for Rs 9 crores ($1.3 million). In addition, Modi who is 66 has not been linked with any woman and he has lived a life without one. Compared to the frugal existence of Yashoda all of Donald's wives got a fat alimony.

Last word

The personal lifestyle of both leaders is the anti-thesis of each other. Yet it will be wrong to conclude that Modi and Trump will not hit it off together. Trump admires strongmen like Putin and Modi is a strong leader. In addition, the interests of India and the USA converge under Modi and Trump and thus there is every chance that both the leaders will work together. Modi got along well with Obama who he considers his personal friend and being a pragmatist leader he and Trump will work together

The film " lipstick under my burkha " is a Hindi film and was screened at the Mami film festival but is awaiting commercial release as the film is not certified by the censor board

the film relates the tale of 4 Mulsim women( all wear burkha).All these 4 women live out their lives and have dreams. there are some explicit love scenes and a taboo subject as the director shows the 55 years widow loving a younger man.The film runs for just about 2 hours and for voyeurs it can be a titillating experience as there are some torrid scenes. Considering that the director is a woman and just 30 ( Ms. Shrivastava), one can surmise she has a personal touch in all of them.  All in all, it makes the entertaining film.

A Devious Plan and Seducing an American Girl

When you are 46 and the girl is 24 , is it a case of a mismatch? I wonder but this is precisely what happened: a lovely girl who came into my arms and the fact that she was American perhaps was the icing on the cake. American girl and icing to the cake? Well, it’s something most men feel in this age and part of the world.

She wore short pants most of the time and one was struck ( I will say for myself)  with the curvaceous calves and lovely bare thighs. Add a slim waist and a fair complexion with auburn hair tied in a ponytail just about accentuated her looks. She was a doctor, yes but extremely feminine.

I took a momentary decision and decided that Sally would accompany me on all my trips and so she became a willing partner with me as we moved in the dense forests of the Ghats and the villages of the tribal. She was good natured and we both hit it well. She was inquisitive about India and I told her a lot, even about the erotic sculptures at Khajuraho.

In about 2 months we became close and I worked my proximity as a director and boss over her to my advantage. One fine day it rained and we all know the thundershowers in the Ghats are something unreal. We sat in the land cruiser and the thunder boomed and boomed again. It was a veritable clash of titans as lightening flashed across the sky and  the clouds hung low  creating darkness all around. Is this what Krishna did in the battle to slay his enemy who could only be killed when the sun was setting.

A boom and a crash followed and by instinct I pulled Sally to me. It was a dream, a dream I had planned for long. Remember all this was stage managed by ME as I held her and kissed her. The resultant atmosphere all around was  weird with flashes of lightening and booming of thunder. This  played its part in the seduction as the inevitable happened and Sally was mine. Was it a seduction? Did I do anything bad ?  it started a relationship that lasted a long time   in relativity though only 2 months. She went back and tumultuous events followed after that , but that is another tale.

An investigation was done and the priest was arrested for rape. He was charged under the Protection of Children from sexual offenses act ( POCSO). It appears that after a sermon the priest would lure the minor girl minor girl to his chamber for the gratification of his lust. The news is reported by NDTV in its evening broadcast.

The rape

The priest Fr Edwin Figarez was a well-known figure in the community and had endeared himself to the populace by his devotional singing of hymns to Jesus. After his repeated rapes were discovered he was tried under POCSO and the judge has awarded him 2 life imprisonment terms. 

Action

The priest has now been suspended by the local diocese. Catholic priests are at the center of many crimes and the Vatican is grappling with the issue. Fr Edwin was tried by a fast track court and punished in a record time.

Tigers Frolicking on the Beach in Dubai: Something Rare

Dubai is an exotic place.
One can get the best of women here but there are also exotic sights. Watching tigers on the beach and seeing them frolicking about in the Arabian Sea is a real sight. Certainly better than a girl ina bikini on the beach. Am I wrong?
